Do you mean a music "file" or music "folder"?  You can search for music files using Start | Search | Pictures, music, or video.  Check 'Music' and then enter * (an asterisk) for the filename if you don't recall its name.

If it's just a play list on a media player, it may still be on the PC, just that the media player has deleted the play list.  Check your folder where you keep your music, e.g. My Documents\My Music is a common location.

System Restore may not restore a deleted users folder such as a music folder.  You can check the Recycle Bin, if the folder was accidentally deleted, it may still be there.

If the System Restore is not working, you have more system problems than just the lost music file.  You need to get the Operating system issues resolved.

System Restore has nothing to do with retrieving music files, by which I assume you mean MP3s, WMAs or equivalent.  Any chance that they're actually in another user's My Music folder?  I'd recommend a search for all music files and then look through the list to see if your 'lost' files are there.

Dude,

I lost a bunch of Music files once after doing an upgrade on my Sony SonicStage music player program, they were just wiped of my HD for good.
