"Slot 'DIMM_1' has 256 MB
Slot 'DIMM_2' has 256 MB"

512mb installed memory is barely enough to run XPsp2 let alone any more running processes any security software will add.

Upgrade the memory to 1gb and install any security software you desire.

Remove your service tag number or this entire thread will get deleted, use options/edit to do this.

Done. What if they don't want to upgrade? Is there any firewall that won't slow the system down too much? If they will upgrade can this PC handle 1GB of RAM? I assume so since you mentioned it, but I just did an upgrade a couple weeks ago on another PC just as old and it would only take 512 Max! Thanks again.

If no memory upgrade is wanted, I would install TrendMicro and see how the computer runs, but take note on how it runs before installing TrendMirco. If there is an noticable slowdown then you can do one of two things add memory or uninstall TrendMirco. There a lot of nice freeware security software available. Everthing I use is free and I've had no problems with virus or spyware infection or removal.

You have 2 memory sockets, each one of them will take the following

128-, 256-, 512-, or 1-GB nonECC

so you have a max of 2gb you can install.

I think you were referring to the specs for TM 2008 running in Vista.
The specs for TM 2007 are as follows for XP users:
Intel Pentium 350MHz (or equivalent processor)
Memory - 128MB (256MB recommended)
Disk Space - 250MB available for installation

I've heard good things about AVG and will probably switch to that or Comodo if TM doesn't work out on this machine. I am testing TM 2007 on the PC and so far I haven't had any major issues. It does load slow, but that's normal. It does the same on my PC and I run:
P4 Prescott 3.4 CPU
1GB Corsair Xtreme RAM
250GB HD

Thanks for the link to the Dimension 3000 RAM specs! I was looking all over for that yesterday without any luck.
