Yes, when i click "view menu," "explorer bar" and "folders," my two panels appear, but, i cant get the view settings to stay after i close the folder.  whenever i open up the folder again, its back to the one panel again. i have tried "tools menu,"  "folder options,"  "view" and "apply to all folders," but whenever i open a folder its still in one panel again.

i cant get my folder view settings to stick.

thanks,

Zatochi,

Click on View|Explorer Bar. Click on Folders in drop down.  Should put a check and your two panels should be there.

Zatochi,

Check your Folder Options|View settings.  "Remember each folder's view settings" must be checked.  Then do the procedure I described again after that is applied.

The only way this folder on the left view as the standard is in Windows Explorer. I use Windows key + E as a quick way to access it. If you open My Computer, you'll get the Task Pane view and have to use View, Explorer Bar, Folders on the menu.

Thanks, but even with "remember each folder's view settings" checked, my view settings are not remembered and every folder opens up in the single panel view.

Create a sortcut for Windows Explorer, say on your desktop. Then right click on it, click properties.

Change the target line to read

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe

click apply, OK

That is the default, the tree starts at Desktop, My computer, but the My documents folder is expanded.

If you just want it to open with the toip of the tree being My documents, try

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, C:\Documents and settings\your user name\My documents

{unless you have moved your My documents folder, in which case replace the path to point to your My documents folder}

PS not sure that will work with the My documents folder in its default position: I moved mine to another partition and it does work for that.

In general, a Windows Explorer shortcut will open double pane at a particular folder expanded in the tree with the target

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, [path to folder]

Other possibilities, see for example,

Thanks a lot, Mary. i created a shortcut in my tool bar for windows explorer and i can open that up to get access to My Computer, My Documents, etc in the two panel format. Do you know any way i can get My Documents to open up in two panel format, where the left panel has all the folders from My Documents and the right folder has the contents of any chosen folder?

thanks again,

zatochi
