Forced Hard Restart/Turn off?

Question

Hello,   Today I installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my Dell XPS 700 everything went fine with the clean install of vista as Im posting with it now, i've updated all my drivers so things are working fine.   However there is one small problem which is getting kind of annoying, whenever I go too shut down or restart my system vista goes through the shutting down phase and shuts completelly down on screen and the monitor goes into standby however my tower does not flick off to either go off for good or reboot?   Then forcing me to switch off using the button on machine and holding it down which is not right!   Is this something to do with BIOS settings or something more obvious? Ive just resolved this problem it appears that my Memory card/flash card reader is showing up as a USB device I disabled that and it has reset ok!

I have a similar problem after upgrading to Vista, although it's somewhat inconsistent. After the system has gone to sleep, sometimes (often) it won't wake back up, no matter what keys I press or how much I jiggle the mouse. I can even open and close the DVD tray, and it still doesn't wake up. The only option is a power-off, by either unplugging or holding the power key for about 5-6 seconds.

I believe the problem is related to the lack of Quick Resume drivers for Vista. I've tried Intel and Dell and cannot locate them. Same thing for the VIIV software, doesn't run on Vista.

In hindsight I think I would have waited another month before upgrading. Finding and installing beta drivers for audio, video, chipset, Pro NIC, etc... has been a pain!

I have it on mine. The program won't do anything for you anyway. Two ways you can get it in. Turn off user account control, open the program compatibility wizard, and run the installation program in 'compatibility mode' for windows XP SP2, and try to install the program like that. The way I did it, was to open device manager, look for your storage controllers, and figure out which one is the nvidia storage driver, and right click, and do a driver update from there. I also updated my bios, and added the nvidia system bus controller, instead of using the ones that came in Vista. It took 2 or 3 times, but I did eventually get it in, and it fixed the problems. good luck, jd
