The way you have been hopping up and down, fuzzing and peeing your pants all week about this I am not surprised you are frustrated. Just have a little patience for god's sake! You will get SP2 eventually, promise...
I'm only doing the AU process for SP-2 so I can learn how MS is doing it. I have many "very-biginner" friends I can help/assist/advise/etc. about this.
Now with my luck it will begin installing and require a reboot the second Google's IPO starts.
At least yours is doing something. My drive is filled with new files and folders and nothing is happening. Nor is the AU icon in the sys tray.I also have a download meter running (DU Meter) and nothing is downloading.

No, SP2 for Home Edition was released on August 18th. Other people have reported downloading it. And I received a notification that SP2 was available 30 minutes ago. SP2 for Pro users should be available on August 25.
When I saw the notification window, I clicked "download," the window disappeared and nothing happened. Then, I rebooted the PC and the AU icon suddenly appeared, saying it was downloading something. Still at 0%. Don't know if this is normal or another glitch with AU. We shall see.
My guess would be that it is simply slow. Automatic updates is designed to not interfere with other activities. In particular, if you are using the computer to access the network and browse the internet as you seem to be doing, then AU will be heavily throttled so as to make sure you do not see reduced transfer rates in IE, for example. Now, given the fact that we are talking about what may be an 80MB+ download, which proceeds at a slow transfer rate, you will probably see the 0% for quite a while. Things should get faster if you do not use your machine for a while, but I don't know what the capacity of MS' servers, or the capacity of your ISP's connection (wich is receiving all those AU streams in parallel) is. Both are certainly limited, so even if you do not touch your computer for a while, the download may still take hours. Again,
patience is the word...
Another thought!
. I am going to send for the CD since I have dial-up. Too cheep to get DSL.
If I don't get around to installing it for a few weeks, after all the pros and cons have been digested...will there any more up dates applicable to SP1, and would they have to be installed
before SP2, or is SP2 the whole new ballgame and anything else MS finds and creates a patch for would have to be installed
after SP2. Hope I haven't made this too confusing.

Lawn...
I'd like a status report on your SP2 Automatic Update.

My advise is to not restart. Let it do its thing.
