Generic Host Process for WIN32 Services error

I have a 2 day old Inspiron9300  and when I boot up I get an error message "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services error" and it has to close.  I uninstalled Mcafee virus scan and had no error message, reinstalled and the message is back.  Any idea what I can disable to stop it?

Hi,

I've been struggeling with this error for over a month now. When this message pops up, my multimedia also turns out to be disabled (so I cannot play CDs, MP3s or whatever).

This morning, I might have (finally!) found a solution (from http://www.nibbleguru.com/probs/164/326/5):

Re: Generic Host Process for Win32...Error by Anonymous Ghost on November 26th, 2004 06:30:55 PM
I just spoke with HP. This fix works. Control Panel, System, Advanced Tab. Under Performance click "settings" and then the "Data Execution prevention" tab. Select "turn on DEP for all programs except those I select." Then select the "generic host...." box and re-start your computer.

I just did this and after reboot no more Generic Host process error popped up. Wooot!

Good luck,

Wim

Aargh! In the meantime, the problem popped up again! This fix didn't last long, apparently...

One of the things I have found until now is that the problem mostly occurs if my Broadcom Ethernet card is active when I boot. If I boot the system without ethernet cable inserted, and I insert it afterwards, the svchost error doesn't appear.

Anyone with suggestions on how to cope with this problem?

I don't have an answer but maybe some more clues. This problem just started when I connected to Roadrunner. The error messages also only appear when I logon with my profile (administrator) and not when my wife logs on under her profile. The error messages typically come up the first time that I turn the power on to the computer and logon and do not come back unless I power off. I'm going to try your original suggested fix.

Nope, I just powered down after making the changes in "settings" under the "Data Execution Prevention" tab and it did not fix the problem, I still get the errors. This problem does not happen when I restart the computer, only when I turn it on from being completely powered off.

I have also tried starting from the power off with the ethernet cable unplugged and when I do this I do not get the error messages. I can even leave the ethernet cable plugged in and router connected but only unplug the cable modem from the router and not have the problem of the error messages.

I am having this same issue. I have an Inspiron 1150 with XP Pro. I only encounter the problem when I am using the internal wireless card. When in the office and hard wired to the network, I NEVER encounter this issue. When I turn on/restart the machine while wireless, the error appears.
