Getting IIS 5.1 localhost to work

Question

I just received and set-up my Dimension 8400 complete with XP Pro/Service Pack 2 & IIS 5.1. I have followed all instructions on installing IIS.  Whenever trying to navigate to http://localhost/default.htm,  it either does not respond or will eventually give me 'Server Not Found'.   I have pinged my localhost, computer name and IP address, and they all give me back the 4 packets of information they're supposed to.   I have even gone to Run - inetmgr, and made sure everything had the correct options checked. Maybe I'm missing something. I have stopped, started and restarted IIS innumerable times.  All to no avail.   I also have .NET Visual Studio installed and tried to make a new web application, which would create it in localhost.  All it did was hang and 'Not Responding'  indefinitely.   Please, help me to get IIS to work and be able to navigate to localhost in my IE browser and get .NET working also.   Thanks

davemclv, The 'localhost' problem after SP2 is resolved by this Microsoft hotfix. Jim

Thanks everyone for your help. I have tried all these, however, sad as it is, that still did not work. I am going to try and remove IIS, then add it again. Anyone have any other suggestions?
