Getting computer back to factory settings/or the way it was when I got it from Dell.

My Dell Inspiron 530 with Windows XP crashed and I am having a terrible time getting it back to the way it was when I received it from Dell. How do I do that?

I tried installing with the one disc I received but failed miserably. There are no step by step instructions that I can find to do this myself and I can't afford to pay someone else to do it because I am currently unemployed.

Will someone please help a person down on his luck?

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Gary, If you have not damaged you D Restore partition, then you can use this support journal HERE, if you have damaged then use this support journal HERE, also HERE for your journal on how to install your drivers, and in what order(important).

Try CTRL F11 at boot when you see the Dell logo.

Hello RobinBredin...Thanks for the fast reply. I am not sure what you mean by damage to my D Restore partition. How do I know if I did that? Would reformatting HD cause this? I did put the resource CD in and reinstalled the OS one time. I do believe I reformatted the HD.

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Gary, Chances are that you have damaged your D Restore partition when you used your disc to format your HD. However, to check this out, go into My Computer, if you see a 10GB partition, then no. If the partition hase gone, then you have lost the chance to get your system back to factory state. Now you will have no choice , but to use your disc's.

I am in desperate need of help as well. I did a complete windows vista install. I used the disc that came from Dell. My problem is so complexed that Dell nor Microsoft can figure out what is going on. It all started on 7/31/09 when I was instructed to do a complete system restore. I did that and all haywire broke loose. I am unable to download and install anything that I choose. I get automatic updates from windows but I can't go on the microsoft website and download any files without a IE warning that states that the digital signature could not be verified. Tried going to the tool and adding the site. It would allow me to save it but once I try to run it as the Admin the program in windows has stopped working and will close the program message appears. I have been with Tech support with Dell and Microsoft going on 3 days now and still no solution.

Hi netwill,

I did that and all haywire broke loose.

Have you picket up a virus or something, because I don't understand that. The way I see it you have 2 choices,

1st choice, you repost it HERE in the virus section, or 2nd choice, you reinstall your OP.

Netwill - It's not polite to jump into the middle of somebody else's thread with an unrelated question.

I answered you in your own thread.
