HELP: Cannot install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and MSDE desktop engine

Hi, I just bought Dell PowerEdge 400SC with P4(Hyper Threading). I have Windows XP Professional edition with Service Pack 1 on the server. When I tried to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000, the installation process hangs on the step "configuration server....". I tried several times even let it run for a whole night but that dialog was still there. Even though the installation cannot finish, I can see the server process running from the task manager.

The following is the error log for the installation of SQL Server 2000. The error log for installation of MSDE is basically the same, what I should do?

Microsoft doesn't care what type of machine you use, but they care which O/S you use.  This is a link to the O/S requirements for diffeerent versions of SQL Server 2000. http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/sysreqs/2000/default.asp

The OS I use is Microsoft Windows XP Professional. I know SQL Server2000 can be installed on XP Pro but I cannot get it work on Dell PowerEdge 400sc. Should I install some patch or service pack for SQL Server? My XP Pro has the latest update and it sould be fine. This problem has bothered me a while and now it becomes an urgent problem. Please help!

I am confused Microsoft says, for SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition must run a Microsoft Server.  Windows XP is not a server.  SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Edition and Developer Edition can run on Windows XP.  SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition and SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE) can no run on WIndows XP  You naver said which Server version you had.  Question - are you conforming to their requirements?  If not, why do you think it should work?
