HELP! OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND
WHEN I TRIED TO START MY INSPIRON 2650 LAPTOP TODAY I RECEIVED A MESSAGE SAYING THAT THE OPERATING SYSTEM WAS NOT FOUND. ALREADY TRIED THE XP REINSTALLATION DISK AND THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST DISK TO NO AVAIL.

This is the MS troubleshooting
OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND ERROR
Anyways, it seems mainly like the HDD has lost its connection.
You may just have to remove and secure the HDD again, among other components like the floppy drive and CD-Drive...
dismantling your portable info is available from support.dell.com under your service tag.

Running Chkdsk from the Recovery Console *may* tell you something if it will run. I'd give it a try first. The command at the Recovery Console prompt would be:
chkdsk /r
