** HELP ** Unable to rename / delete files and folders! ** HELP **

Hi there.  I am having a problem with folder permissions.

I am the only user profile on the computer and I am set as Administrater.

I had created a folder on my desktop called software and I use it to store my downloads.  Just today i went to rename this folder to Downloaded Software and it tells me that I need permission to do this action.  So i tried to cut and paste all the files in this folder to a new one with the new name and the same issue occurs.  It copied the files to the new folder however it did not remove the files from the original folder.

As I said before I am the only account on this computer and I am using the account that created this folder on my desktop.  Why is this happening?  Is there an easy way to fix this without jeopordizing the security of my machine?  It is a Dell Inspiron 9400 with Windows Vista running McAfee
VirusScan / SecurityCenter.

To make matters even harder for me to understand I have User Account Control TURNED OFF.

Please let me know if you can help.

Thanks,
Chris.

Ouch! That's really weird.

How about this:
>windows logo
>Search:command prompt
>right-click:run as administrator
>cd C:\Users\"your_user_name"\Desktop\
>rmdir "Folder_name"

Did you try it with UAC turned back on then agree to the prompts of the UAC? Give that a shot.

its easy to correct, rightclick on the file. choose properties, choose security, click edit, highlight your account name, put a tick in the "full Control allow box". click apply. and you have full control.

tip 1: if you have a lot of inherented files from xp (like after an upgrade) you can set the permissions in the same way, by opening my computer and right click on a drive and follow the same procedure as above. be aware this is less secure!

tip 2:to protect a file you can use the same, but put the tick in the DENY box.
