HOW TO ENTER SAFE MODE?

I am running winxp sp1 home edition on my 8250 P4 Dell computer, and I would like to boot up into a safe mode for virus scanning. How do I start up the computer and enter the safe mode?  Thank you for any help Joe

When you boot up the PC and BEFORE you get the Windows Starting, Press F8 and you will be given a menu and one item is Safe Mode.

restart your computer, and as it's booting up, press F8- this will give you a menu and you can choose Safe Mode from there.
