Help! I don't know how to reformat on XP

I have windows XP and a Dimension 4550. I put my windows XP CD in the drive and set BIOS to boot from the CD drive but it didn't work.

Suggest you check your computers BIOS again to see it you previously exited without saving BIOS changes.
If it doesn't show CD-ROM as 1st boot device then you did so set CD-ROM as 1st boot device again & exit saving changes.
