Help. Unable to reinstall SP2.

During my attempt to repair Windows XP Home Edition I "lost" SP2. For a couple of days now I've been unable to reinstall it. The installation always freezes up on me about one quarter of the way. Please help. botzaris

Download it from here, save it to your hard drive, and install it in safe mode.

Mom what exactly does safe mode do? or what is it used for?
why is it safer to load sp2 in safe mode?

I've already done that except that I downloaded it to my desktop. Should I downloded it and install it as a user or administrator? botz

Mombodog;
I'm going to ask a touchy question!!! My neighbor has an XP os computer that doesn't have validated software. She is unable to update to the sp2 version. Is there any way to download sp2 software to her computer so she can get Microsoft updates? Thanks

Use the link I posted above. The microsoft link, not the wikipedia.

Monbodog;
Would you also suggest that I save it to my "C" drive than down load it in safe mode?

You don't have to download it in safe mode, just install SP2 in safe mode, yes save it to your hard drive, to a folder of choice, then boot into safe mode and execute the file.

Slipstream SP2 into your XP CD and reinstall the OS clean.
