Help!!! my windows task manager has all but disappeared

Hi all,

my first post so please bear with me :)

I was having problems with a blank white screen appearing....and on ctl alt del the message blank screen provided by dell internet explorer appeared. This has been going on for some time, and could be closed via the task manager, after which it would not normally appear until the next start up, however tonight I did the usual ctl alt del only to find that the only part of the task manager to appear was the task and switch to buttons, all the other functions including the red x to close it have disappeared. I can't close this down unless I turn the pc off :(

any help appreciated,

thanks,

Pete

I had a similar problem.

Are the tab buttons, such as performance, processes, etc. also missing? I had that happen to me and the only way I could get it to work properly was to restore it back to a point earlier where it worked properly.

That might be a drastic answer to a small problem and hopefully someone else will have a better answer, but that's what I did. I did a SYSTEM RESTORE to a day earlier, or when it was working, and it has been fine since.

But wait a while, because someone with more knowledge might come up with an easier and better solution.

Thank you eskymi,

I will persevere as you suggest, but if all fails, then it's system restore time,

best wishes,

Just double-click the blank border at the top of the window and everything should come back.
