Help needed removing SigmaTel drivers.

Hello,

I'm trying to remove the drivers for SigmaTel and get windows to install its own drivers (so I can then get SP1, this method has been suggested a few times on here). However, every time I reboot, its just reinstalling them.

I've tried searching for anything named R157052 using both the built in search and Google desktop search and removed the two instances it found. I thought this would remove the drivers from the system but its still finding them somehow. What am I missing? Can anyone help?

Thanks,

David

what system are you running and does it use SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio?

if your model is a 130L, MXCO51, M1530; 1420, 1501, 1520, 1521, 1720, 1721, 5120, 5135/1400,
MEOS1, MMO61, MPO61, MXCO61; Labtude: 120L, 13Th, ATG 0630, 0420, 0430, 0520,D530, 0531, D620, D630, D630c, 0631, D820, D830, XT; Precision:M2300, M4300,M6300, M65, M90; Vostro Notebook: 1000, 1400, 1500, 1700; XPS:M1330, M1730,
MXCO62, MXGO61, MXPO61

then you can use this driver

just decompress the driver into a new folder and in device manager click on the update driver button for your audio card and point the wizard to the new folder.

Hello,

I'm using SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, according to the description in the device manager. Not sure how to tell what the hardware actually is though.

My model is a Dimension DM061

Thanks,

David

Are you sure it is re installing the sigma tel driver or is it installing the microsoft driver...when I removed the sigma tel & rebooted, a "new device" was installed, a quick check in device manager showed it was the microsoft driver.....went to windows update & sp1 was ready and waiting.

After I assured myself that the sp1 was installed and working well, I did a recover point and reinstalled the same sigma tel driver I had removed (the m/s driver, btw stinks) I have had no problems since.

I had this same problem -- finding the old software and installing it -- until, while using the device manager to uninstall the SigmaTel drivers, there was a box to check that said something like "delete software"  When I checked that, it got rid of the old drivers and searched and installed the compatible Microsoft drivers.

DId you remove it from the Programs and features menu.

Go START/CONTROL PANEL/PROGRAMS & FEATURES/SIGMATEL/UNINSTALL.  This way you are deleting the entire package.  Then it should reboot, find the device, install the VISTA drivers, then do the UPdate, it might take 2 or 3 tries and then download and install SP1 and then say, "Wow, all that work for nothing." Just kidding....

It definitely reinstalled the SigmaTel driver. I checked in device manager. There must be somewhere windows is looking for the driver that I haven't deleted it from. Any suggestions?

Yes, you need to go into add remove programs & remove sigma tel, removing it from device manager wont do the trick, sorry I was not clear.

Thought I would add this info:  I still continued to have problems getting sp1 to appear, until I went to the Add/Remove programs and uninstalled the SigmaTel drivers there, even though I thought I got rid of them through the device manager.  I then had to restart my computer and finally got sp1 to appear.

Thanks for all the responses. thats removed the SigmaTel drivers and I've now got SP1 available through Windows update. However, the sound isn't working at all now.

So do I reinstall the SigmaTel stuff and wait for a driver update or take the risk of installing SP1 and then the SigmaTel drivers? Anyone had this issue before? If so, did it work okay installing SP1?

After unistalling the Sgimatel drivers, did you reboot?

If you reboot, VISTA should find your HD Audio Device and install drivers, but reboot first before doing any installing of SP1.

Also, on my laptop it took a couple minutes to boot and find the HD Audio Drivers and install them.  I was getting worried, but I just waited a couple minutes and it was fine.

If the reboot does not work, go to START>type DEVICE under search>enter DEVICE manger and click on the SOUND + sign.  Shoudl be near the bottom.  Then see if there is anything listed, if so right click on it and select UPDATE DRIVER SOFTWARE.  This should also install VIStA drivers.

If that does not work, then I would go back to the Dell page, download the Sgimatel drivers, reinstall and just wait until a fix is found.

But I can't see why it wouldn't, it has worked for many many others.

On my desktop, I did re install the old sigma tel driver, because, the M/S driver was  bad, on the laptop, the m/s driver seems ok so I will leave it, why mess with what is working.

if your sound is still not working the first thing I would do is check the device mgr. if the sound card/chip is showing, remove it, re boot and see if m/s finds & installs it...if so, and it sounds o/k, leave well enough alone.  If not, go to Dells site, find, download and install the sigma tel driver for your machine.

As I understand it, the only "problem" with the driver is that sp1 cant uninstall & then reinstall it.

Restart, open device manager, and expand the sound video and game controlllers, right click on high definition audio device, click  properties, driver, and uninstall, reboot, and windows should install a sound driver

Thanks for all the replies. I've managed to uninstall the sound drivers, install SP1 and re-install the sound drivers. No problems so far.

Hi bacillus

Have you tried using this driver?

I'd like to know if it's ok to use on my Inspiron 6400.
