I wouldn't bother installing XP Professional as a separate partition.
I would suggest virtualisation. Windows 7 professional has the license for XP Mode.

XP Mode is however a bit slow. VMWare player is much better:
http://www.vmware.com/products/player
You can install XP in it using your separate license.
