Ok. Here's the drill. Click on Start|Run. Type
cmd. Press Enter. At the command prompt type
cd\windows\system32\macromed\flash. Press Enter. Your prompt should now be:
C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash >
Type
regsvr32 flash8.ocx. Press Enter. A regsvr32 information box should pop up that reads:
"DllRegister Server in flash8.ocx succeeded". If you receive a message that it did not succeed, then restart your computer in Safe Mode. Login as Administrator. Repeat the regsvr32 flash8.ocx command. If this does not fix the problem let us know.

We need to know the exact error you are receiving and XP version. I assume you are downloading from this site: http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/#players.
