Home page problems
Hello, I'm having a problem where my home page keeps changing on me. I have changed it on the internet explorer "internet options' but everytime I restart my computer it goes back to the home page of "teen-biz.com". I had let a friend use my computer and now things are all screwed up. Can anyone help me with this? I was also getting a lot of porn pop-up ads.
Thanks
Brian

Download and run Spybot from here. It will rid your system of spyware and allow you to set (and keep) the homepage you desire. It also has an immunize feature which will prevent anything in the future from changing the home page without your permission.

To fix the problem with your homepage being changed
1) Open up 'Open up My Computer' or if you really want Internet Explorer
2) navigate to path "c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu"
3) move "winlogon.exe" to another location on you hard disk (click on file and goto edit 'move to folder'), any folder will do for now (desktop will do fine).
3a) (if file is there skip this step)
Hopefully the file is there, if it isn't, it might be under another suspicious filename. Try resetting homepage and then double-clicking these apps. To see which one is causing problem
4) restart your computer. Everything should be working fine. You can delete the file if you wish to.
----------------------------------------------
If the "winlogon.exe" file is not in your start menu folder for all users (this may be a different directory tham what i listed)...do a search for the filename. DO NOT delete or move this file from your windows system directory as it is an essential operating system file. However if it is anywhere else on your hard disk its most likely contributing to the problem of your homepage being changed..
Hope that helps....

I also used Spybot Search and Destroy and it helped a little but I was still unable to change my home page (it was grayed out).
I went to www.lavasoft.de and downloaded Ad-Aware 6 (free version).
It solved my homepage problem and found other stuff that Spybot missed.
I use these 2 apps hand in hand on a regular basis to keep my machine "garbage-free".
Make sure you download the latest version and check for updates before scanning.
Hope this helps.

All, this is the advice I and lots of others at the four spyware removal sites listed below advise for the removal of all types of malware:-
-------------------------------
Use these to remove Malware (Spyware and Adware).
Spybot S&D
Ad-Aware
Cwshredder
With all of these download them, install (after unzip if required), download the latest signature file, run, delete all that they find.
Failing those solving your problems a post of a hijackthis log for the experts to advise.
HijackThis From Here
Download, run, scan, save log, then in notepad copy the FULL log by copy and paste to a post in one of these specialist spyware removal forums:-
http://tomcoyote.org/forums/index.php
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php
http://www.net-integration.net/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi
http://boards.cexx.org/index.php
DO NOT FIX ANYTHING WITH HIJACKTHIS WITHOUT EXPERT ADVICE, most of what it finds you need for normal MS Windows tasks.
Do read the sites FAQ before posting, and advise your problem and what steps you have already done to try to cure your problem.
I am in all those sites as ChrisRLG. You might get me, but any of the more problematic ones are handled by the experts. If you get a 'advanced member' like me, we have other ways of asking for advice from the experts, to pass on to you.
You could post your log here in this thread (if in the Virus Information and Removal Board - if not post in that board not in this thread), and I will have a go at giving advice, but if you go to one of the more specalist forums more experts will be able to help.
