I think you are saying you want Windows XP to automaticly connect to DSL when you start up your computer?

I understand what is wrong now.

You might want to use 192.168.1.1 in the internet browser, and click on wizard setup.

When you see the Internet light on the modem on, close the browser. Restart the system, and see if you are still connected.

The DSL modem is on all the time, it is just that I shut off my computer ocassionally, and then, when I restart my computer, it has to reconnect by logging in with my username and password to ATT (SBC) Internet.

Or if you use your internet service providers browser, then you will not be able to automaticly because of the way you log in to use internet.

Hmm. Well, you may be hesitant to leave the DSL modem on when the system is off.

But you may leave the Network cable pluged in to the system, and then power on the DSL modem while the system is powering on. BUT, to avoid star up delay, power on the DSL modem when you see the Windows XP boot screen.

I use Internet Explorer to browse the internet.  When I connect to Internet Explorer it tries to connect to my DSL which has my userid and password saved in the connect box.

So can you explain what you mean by:

You might want to use 192.168.1.1 in the internet browser, and click on wizard setup.

When you see the Internet light on the modem on, close the browser. Restart the system, and see if you are still connected.

Wehn I attempt to access http://192.168.1.1  through my webserver, i get the message: "cannot find server." What am I doing wrong?

Hi Gblaca,

You have mentioned that placing the shortcut of IE in startup slows the booting process. Give this option a try where instead of shortcut, you can invoke the IE itsef.

Right click on destkop and click New -> Text document. Name the file as test.bat

Right click on this file test.bat and click "edit". Add the following entry in the test.bat file.

Start iexplore

Save and exit the test.bat. Now you need to invoke this batch file at startup. Copy and paste this file in the startup folder. You can get the startup folder by right clicking on Start button, click Explore, double click All programs.

Hope this helps you.

Happy troubleshooting,

Cheers,
Maddy.

gblaca,

More startup programs, more startup time.

Hi Maddy,

What would be the advantage of putting iexplore into a batch startup file instead in the startup program instead of just putting the internet explorer icon in the startup file?

Please reply.

Thanks.
