How do I delete Real Player?

Question

Every time I try to delete the Real Player program - which has never worked and always says I am offline when I'm not - it starts deleting and then freezes. Then I have to send an error message, over and over and over. Is there a way to get rid of it? Also, I tried to listen to the radio broadcast from Crawford, Texas, today but none of the 'click heres' worked. Music Match popped up and never worked, but I always use Windows Media Player for audio. What am I doing wrong?

This is what I would try to do. 1.  Go into MSConfig, and make sure that Real Player is not running at startup.  Simply unclick it.  This may be the cause of your problems, trying to uninstall a program that is already running in the background. 2.  Reboot 3.  Try to uninstall via the Add/Remove panel. 4.  If it doesn't show up there, I would try the Uninstall via the Start menu / Programs.  But I am assuming this is where you are hanging up now. 5.  If the uninstall routine doesn't work, I would probably go into C:\Programs, and delete the Real Player folder.  That is probably not the right way to do things, and it definitely does not change the registry, so do that as a last resort.   Good luck.

Before uninstalling any program, you should not disable any entries for it in msconfig startup. You'll possibly get a failed uninstall. Just use Add/remove to uninstall. To unistall a program that's running, use Safe Mode instead.

That's the first I heard of that...I know that Real Player is difficult to "not start" up, because it seems to reinstall itself as a startup program. (probably incorrect terminology, but that is what it has appeared to do before on my computer). Doesn't Safe Mode emulate the non-running of Real Player (ie, it is not running at startup)? I suppose that would work as well.

Other programs do not necessarily need to be running on startup when uninstalling them, so I don't know why Real Player would have to be. Usually you want the program not working when uninstalling them.

What I repeated here was what I did when removing it before, and it worked. I left out the HiJack This part, which may be overly complicated.

Just an additional suggestion to prevent Real from accessing your computer. If your using Zone alarm firewall or something similar, ope up the program page and put all Xs for access. The firewall will stop it.
