How do I disable windows messenger

After booting up my computer, I get two pop up messages regarding "windows messenger" How do I disable this program.

Thanks. I actually figured out the right steps but forgot to reboot.

Install the Service Pack 1a, then go to the Control Panel -> Software -> Windows Components and uncheck Windows Messenger ;-)
