Neither one of the above will remove MSN Messenger. One will remove Windows Messenger (not quite the same) and the other will disable Messenger Service (entirely unrelated).
MSN Messenger is not a Windows component, and should be found in the normal Add/Remove program listing accessable from the Control Panel.
Thanks everyone for your assistance. I have now removed the troublesome MSN Messenger from my start up. Haven't removed it from the system completely as one user still uses it to chat with friends.
