Yes, start the installation process from the installation CD, delete all the partitions, then format the disk and end the installation. process.

I tried that and it won't let me delete partition1   XPs current home.  It says it contains temporary setup files that are requuired to comple the installation.

What model laptop is it?

 

It sounds to me like you're running the install process, after you've booted to the desktop?

You need to boot from the XP disc, then (quick-) format the hard drive :emotion-55:

 

Insert the XP CD, then reboot the system, and start again.

By booting from the disc, no files on the hard drive will be in use - or be required :emotion-5:

 

BTW:  It would be a good idea to have all the drivers you need - plus XP SP3, burned to a CD/DVD - or copied to a pendrive, prior to beginning the installation :emotion-55:

That'll save you a lot of time after you've installed the OS!
