How remover dual boot ???
This Dimension 8200 had 2 HD's and 2 OS's with dual boot in place. I've replaced the two HD's with one new one.
Now I have reinstalled XP on one new unformatted HD. XP is installed on drive C: formatted with NTFS. But boot.ini contains this line suggesting dual boot (multi) is still in place.
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
When I boot the machine, startup hangs with the F8 and F12 choices at the top. THere is no response to F12. F8 brings me to a screen providing a choice of startups. Choosing Drive C: brings me to a screen providing an retry choice or Setup. does start XP from Drive C.
How do I get the dual boot function out of the machine?

Since you removed the second HD, you need to set the BIOS to do not look for it. Press F2, on the BIOS screen go to the Primary Slave and turn it off. This will avoid the F1/F2 message

Where do you get the dual boot notification??? After selecting the F1 to boot from C?

Thanks for the help. Please forgive the error in stating F8 and not F2.
F2 gives me the bios setup but the Drive 1 selection only provides for "Auto" or "n/a" choices. How do I get it to recognize there is no Drive 1? Drive 0 is all that is present.
I assumed the presence of dual boot from the behavior and from the "multi" term in boot.ini. In another machine with only one HD that term is not present.
