Some training programs are put on at the factory and cannot be reinstalled. Have you tried the Downloads tab above? Pick Applications and download the latest Dell Support program.

Hi,
I have the same problem in fact there is a concurrent thread going on with Gary Hope on the same thing. I really believe the files are still somewhere on my HD but the path to them has been broken. I don't have enough computer skills to search them out and link them back up.

Hydralisk00222 -- I sent you a private message with my e-mail address. I think my e-mail address is also in my profile if you did not receive the private message.

Thank you for your help!

Cheers!
Dave

Thanks to Hydralisk00222 for all the help.

Bob -- I think you may be able to get at least the Dell User's Guide back into Help and Support. I was able to find my Dell User's Guide in the necessary format in the HTML directory on my Resource CD-ROM. If your Resource CD-ROM does not have this directory, do a search for *.hht. The file should be in a .cab file along with a file named package_description.xml and either a .chm (Compiled HTML Help File) and title.txt or several .htm/.gif/.jpg files.

In order to install the PC Health files you need to download the 'Dell PC Health Program' from http://www.bay-wolf.com/downloads.htm. It is a .zip file; run the installer inside the .zip file. Now, copy the .cab file into the following directory: WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\BATCH. The .cab file will be deleted once it is copied into the folder. Go ahead an run Help and Support; your User's Guide should be in the User and system guides section.

Cheers!
Dave

Thanks to Baywolf's site, Hydralisk, and this thread, I was able ot restore the user's Guides in Help and Support!!!!

I only had those for 5 days before I had to reformat my hard-drive 2 years ago. I found the required cab file by doing search for
"2h932ex1" on my Dell resource CD. I then copied the Cab file to my PC health\batch folder, and Voila!!!

This was after I downloaded the PC health installer from Baywolf's site, and ran the install.

Now if I can find the Software and Device Guides I need. I wonder if they are also on the Dell Resource CD? I will look.

Thanks everyone!!!

And thanks especially to Baywolf and Hydralisk, for providing the Installer.

Yes they are there, although the names mean very little and for each model a whole series is included (because of the options available for video, sound cards, CD drives, etc. for each model). But if you look inside the cab file you can find an index.htm file that will tell you what component the cab file refers to. That will save you putting guides to components you don't have into your help centre.

Do you have the Dell CD with a user guide on it?

Mouseover the link, and look in the status bar. It shows the pathe to the cab file you need. Just copy the path, and use "search" with the CD in the drive. When you find the CAB file, copy to
C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\BATCH

If you don't have the CAB file, I'm not sure if it can be done.

I have not yet been able to 'recover' the Dell User Guide to my system. Could one of you more knowledgeable people enumerate the procedure I need to follow to accomplish this task. I have tried using the information provided above, but have not been able to achieve the desired result. Your every consideration is appreciated. Thank you!

Boy, I am really letting everyone know how stupid I really am. I have two CD's that came with my system. (1) OS Reinstallation CD M$ WinXP, and (2) Application Backup: Dell Installed Programs. I have browsed #2, but could not determine if what I need is there. I did a search of the CD for the file JRosenfeld listed, but came up empty. (???)

I got a whole bunch of CDs with my Dell 8300. One is blue, called Drivers and Utilities.  On the right of the spindle hole it says contents: 'Device drivers', 'Diagnostics and utilities' and 'Computer documentation'. When I insert it into my CD drive, the label shows 'Resource CD'. If you have a similar disk and look at its contents in Windows Explorer, it has a folder called HTML. This contains folders with the various component documentations and user guides. As I said in my previous post, the folders have obscure names, like 0P452, 1H028, that don't tell you anything. In my case there are subfolders in English, French, German and Spanish or Italian (each in its own subfolder, called Eng, Fre, etc.). But if you open the Eng subfolder (for English version), then its Axx-00 subfolder folder (xx is 00 or 01, 02 or whatever), there is in most cases a .cab file. Looking inside that you get to the index.htm file that I mentioned, that tells you what the .cab file refers to. On the disk that came with my PC there are 39 items! Of these, only 5 were relevant to my system and those were the ones I copied to the helpctr batch folder a la Hydralisk. In some cases, instead of a .cab file, the individual files are shown; I don't know if putting these in the batch folder would work, I haven't tried.

If I search the disk for index.htm all the relevant files come up (including the French, Spanish and German etc. ones, look at the In Folder column), so that is another way of quickly finding out which .cab file is relevant for you.

I have made an Excel spread sheet with the information about what guides I have. If anyone wants that, please give me your email by private message, and I will send it to you; subsequently I can send you any guides that are of interest to you from that sheet. I think that the contents differ for different PC models, so if anyone else feels like sharing what they have, this would be a good place to post.

Thanks for the information but I haven't been able to use it. I searched the ResourceCD from top to bottom. I opened every folder, cab and all and by using the index.htm files found everything from Turtle Beach to Samsung...but nothing for Dell User Guide.

Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
