You CAN'T rename any of the "Users" names. While you can change the Account Name from Control Panel (which is what you have done), this is simply a cosmetic change. All of the settings and information for that account still point to the Users folder that was created when the account was initially set up, and that can't be changed.

Nikspadia,
Is it possible to do what you want to do? Yes, but it requires expertise in the use of Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK). Even skilled technicians try to avoid this solution.
A much simpler solution would be to:
1. Backup all your data, favorites, e-mail settings, pictures, music, videos, and so forth.
2. Disconnect ALL peripheral devices such as printers and external USB drives.
3. Restore your laptop to its "as-shipped" Factory Image. See this: http://support.us.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=3E48AE3870775D64E040A68F5B2877D4&journalid=561A1351F56C697DE040AE0AB6E12879&Query=&SystemID=&ServiceTag=&contenttype=&os=&component=&lang=&doclang=&toggle=&dl=
This will let you create your user folder with the name you desire.
Hope this information helps.

tgsmith,
ummmmm.......... I believe you can create a new account without Restoring to the Factory Image????? Seems a little (NO - a lot) extreme (and completely unnecessary) to me !

Rebel9,
Yep. I agree, but Nikspadia seems determined to change the name of the original user account folder. Vista's built-in security creates so many headaches if you attempt to copy the original user profile settings to a new user, and then delete the original user's profile. While this could be done fairly easily in XP, it is not an easy task in Vista. I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that Nikspadia's system was fairly new, so the restoration of the factory image seemed like the "quick and dirty" way to accomplish the objective.
I routinely use Owner as the user name when setting up clients' Vista systems, and then change the display name in User Accounts. That way, when an employee departs for whatever reason, I avoid the confusion of the new user seeing the former employee's name on the user account folder. I've found that employees don't mind seeing Owner on the user account folder, but it sure as heck bothers an employee when the user account folder has the former employee's name or a misspelling of his/her name.

Hi Tony,
Yes, I see your point. Perhaps it would be just as simple to restore the computer using the factory image. And you are correct - Vista doesn't make it easy to transfer profile settings to a new account. :smileysad:

The name of your computer is not the same as changing a user name. You should explain what you want to do-- 'change the the name of my p c from the system' doesn't make sense. In Windows 7 you can find many answers in Windows Help. Search Help for Computer Name or whatever name you want to change. There is even a video in Help to show you how to change the computer name.

Hi Techgirl83, {You might have to recreate the user account with the user name that you want} how can I do this? Cause I have tried other ways..unfortunately nothing works so far. Thanks Ray.

I don't think you can rename user names once they are created in vista. You might have to recreate the user account with the user name that you want.
