How to create a bootable image cd/dvd

Alright i'm going out of my mind. I'm trying to create a bootable image. I have nero 7 and magicISO. Everytime i burn and then try to boot to the cd it doesn't work. Can someone tell me what to do step for step. It doesn't matter if i'm using MagicISO or Nero 7. I just want to make a bootable disc. There's a step "from a bootable image file" then you could browse for a file. I don't know what it's asking.

anyway any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

What kind of bootable CD are you trying to make? DOS?

"It's hard to do that though, because i have a notebook"

It is a heck of allot easier than what you are trying to do.

You have to extract the boot image from the original XP CD.

That is alot easier. It's hard to do that though, because i have a notebook. When i'm creating a bootable image, the part where it's asking for a bootable file, what file am i looking for? The setup.exe file? Also do i gather all the files and convert them to an iso?

I'm looking for a way to create a bootable disc.

i've ripped my disc and i'm looking to make a copy of it. When i burned the files to disc normally it won't boot off the cd. If i stick it in, in windows then it will come up with the setup.exe file and run like it should but that's not the way to do it.

You are going about it the hard way,

No need to rip the files, just use nero to "copy" the CD, it will be a perfect copy, bootable and all.

Alright since i really couldn't get the "type" of help from here, i kept searching for a way to create a bootable image of xp using just the files. I found a site that shows you how to do it step by step with some NECESSARY files that are vital in acheiving the "bootable" aspect of it which was my problem all along. It's really NOT that hard just a few simple steps. I used Nero 7. The site i think used nero 5.5 or 6 (among other programs) but i pieced together what to do from the old nero application the site had. It even shows you how to slipstream in service packs which was pretty cool and surprisingly simple.

I hope someone else can benefit from this. Here's the link

Enjoy and take care

don't start making things up, I posted the link on how to make it bootable, by extracting the boot image from your original XP CD.

Glad you got it solved on your own..
