How to disable software installation on my PC (Win XP)?

Hi,

My nephews, when I am away from my PC, are usually uninstalling/installing games from my PC either from CD they own or online and I had several "crashes" because of it. My PC has windows XP - and it is a desktop, Optiplex GX270.

I would like to know HOW I could restrict software installation...is there any software outhere to prevent this type of problem? (I do not want to put an ID & Password)

Thanks a lot!

macmax3,

If your nephews have access to the computer in an administrator account they would be able to disable any software you might install to prevent other software installations.

If you want to secure your computer, set your personal administrator account with a password and also set a password for the System Administrator account (see this) and let the nephews use the computer in a Limited Account.

That is definately good advice.  I had to set my son up with a limited account becuase of the "stuff" he was downloading and installing.  Now he can not install anything.  Or uninstall for that matter.  I have to log in as the administrator to install any new games.

This has saved me a lot of hassle and my son's computer now runs a lot better.  It irratates him that he can't install anything but I just tell him that I can eliminate is account.  All is well again.
