How to reinstall MediaDirect?
Hi, all.
I was experiencing DVD playback problems on my Inspiron 6400 (Win XP) - sound stuttered/crackled, and video was jerky (sometimes freezing completely), on all disks - so I decided to reinstall MediaDirect.
I uninstalled it using add/remove programs, then tried to reinstall. When I clicked "install" from the screen that pops up on insterting the disk, I was told that MD is already installed (I cans't find any remaining references to it in the Program Files folder, or the registry, and if I press the MD button, I am told that it needs to be installed). I have also noticed that the disk is marked "use this DVD before you install your operating system".
So: is there a way to install this software now, without reinstalling Windows? Alternatively, is there a way to extract the DVD codecs from the disk so that I can play commercial DVDs with Windows Media Player? (MD took these with it when uninstalled).
Thanks,
Rob

2. Look for a folder named ‘DellKit’. Open this folder and execute the file ‘DellKit.exe’. Follow through the instructions on screen and everything should be in place."
