I do NOT use MS Money, but its shortcut (icon) always appears on my desktop when I start my Windows Home XP computer (that is how the computer was configured by DELL).

The problem here is that the process of appearing the Money icon on the desktop takes about one minute (maybe more) and it is annoying to wait for Money appearing as only after that I can activate other applications.

Please help me to stop Money appearing at the startups, but please note that it is probably not that simple as Money does NOT appear in the startup menu when I try the way suggested by the HELP: START button (right click)--PROPERTIES--START menu tab--CLASSIC START menu--CUSTOMIZE--ADVANCED--START menu--PROGRAMS--START UP

Thanks for attention and help'

Start, Run, Msconfig. Click on Startup Tab. Uncheck everything that this site says you can: www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php. When the computer reboots, check the box that says don't show me this again. If it's X or N, uncheck it.

If you never use Money, why not uninstall it?

Thanks for attention to my problem.

Why NOT to delete Money.

I have very bad experience with deleting major programs. They are often interchanged with other applications and damage those at deleting. I use Quicken and am afraid to hurt it, the more so that MS would be very pleased if it happens and may include something to that end in Money.

Most programs written by smaller companies do not conform to Microsoft standards (or Wise standards), so that they hook into existing (or replace) dll's used by other programs. When you remove the smaller company app, it also removed the in-use dll's, and you end up with a broken application.

Anyone who knows what they are doing will NOT replace MS dll's with a 'bootleg' version, or will isolate their installation so that this situation won't happen.

All that said, it shouls be safe to uninstall Money. Microsoft follows it's own standards :)

Money is safe to uninstall . . I have done it on around a hundred Dell systems with no problem.

Writing "delete" I mean "UNINSTALL"

Mike and Rich:

Many thanks for "shots of courage" to delete Money.

Rich:

You wrote about SMALL companies, but I deleted (several months ago) AOL and damaged NORTON Internet Security, because AOL also had some antivirus/antispam etc. files. I took me to get in touch with Symantec and to reinstall NORTON to fix that problem.

By the way I did not explain my problem clearly, as I believed (writing my message) that people would know that there appears NOT a simple shortcut but an importunate and annoying MS Money ADVERTISEMENT- INVITATION to use Money.
It is a small separate window lauding Money (I should have made it clear in my appeal for help - sorry that I did not).
I think DELL sets all its new computers in that way (an agreement with MS?) but most people are not bothered because they do not log off/on frequently which I have to do, and therefore to me it is a nuisance.

All new Dell systems come complete with 'trial' versions of several apps, all of which pop annoying messages from time to time. If you are not going to use these trial versions the easiest way to avoid the nagging popups is to uninstall them.
