IE Download Help

I just got my Inspiron 530 today, and I tried to download a relatively large file (~450MB) and after about 2MB, it stopped and said it was complete, but it wasnt. I tried again, and this time it went to 15MB and stopped and said it was complete, how can I get IE to download the whole file? I am on a wireless network, and the signal is very strong.

The problem is probably with the site you you are tapping, not your box. Some sites are just not stable. You need a download manager which can restart an interupted download. I use DownThemAll add-in for Firefox. There are several available for IE. Some will also use multiple connections if possible to download even faster.

Are you using tool bars on the IE? Try also by deleting the temp internet files, history, cookies... I've downloaded files no bigger than 130mb on IE.

To download big files (up to 5Gb) I use GetRight, Ares, uTorrent...
Run some Windows updates on your computer also to make sure...

Well, I'm downloading from download.com, that's pretty stable I think, and firefox seems to have no problem downloading it.

Really weird... Post back to see if after clearing cache the problem was solved, also try with a file about 50 - 100 just to test...

No, I'm not using any toolbars, and I haven't tried clearing the cache, I can't do it now because firefox is already downloading the file, so there is no reason for me to download it in IE, but as soon as it's done, I will try it just to see if it works. I have run all the available updates windows could find, a total of 31, still nothing.

Well, I managed to get to 295MB and then instead of saying complete, it just hung, I tried a smaller file, about 60MB, that downloaded just fine, and using firefox made it hang up at around 250 MB

I know no one has said this and it may not be the problem, but it does not hurt to check and to make the change on your router if necessary.  Is your MTU setting set to high or to low?

Tried it, it worked at 1472, so that's not the problem. Any other suggestions?

Hmm...that's a thought, I changed the hard drive sleep time to "Never" and edited the registry with the new Values, I have already got the file, so it's not a problem anymore, thanks for the help =].
