IE6 SP1 Installation Help

Hi,

I am getting a strange error message when trying to run Windows Update and install SP1 for IE6. I go through the process and download the file. When the SP tries to install, I get the following message:

I assume that something in the registry thinks I already have a previous install going on? I can't seem to stop this from happening. Does anyone know how I can correct this issue?

Thanks,
Mark

open up the registry editor.

navigate to these keys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx

delete all entries in those keys. adjust nothing else!

I have the same issue mentioned above.  I am trying to upgrade IE5.5 to IE6.  When setup runs, I get a message "previous installation has pending work, please reboot...." -- reboot to no avail.  I checked your HKEY_LOCAL...... and no information was present (no entries to delete).  I have also tried to delete all information from the TEMP directories.  Any other suggestions?  I am running Win ME.  Another strange thing - if I check Add/Remove programs -- IE is not listed (tried to look into doing a 'repair' to IE).

 thanks

David

"I am running Win ME."

You might get better results if you post into the Windows ME board. The strategy for clearing up this problem when Windows ME is the operating system might be different that what would be done for Windows 2000.

Sorry, when I did a search with the key issues, this was the closest I found - and didn't realize I had gotten a wrong Windows Version....  I guess just start from square one.....
