IIS manager missing - install internet information services for ASP?
I would like to run ASP on Windows XP pro on my dell notebook (inspiron 6400). I am new to ASP and would like to check the code before putting it on the real server. The WW3 School site gives instructions for this as follows: How to install IIS and run ASP on Windows XP Professional: "1. Insert the Windows XP Professional CD-Rom into your CD-Rom Drive 2. From your Start Button, go to Settings, and Control Panel 3. In the Control Panel window select Add/Remove Programs 4. In the Add/Remove window select Add/Remove Windows Components 5. In the Wizard window check Internet Information Services, click OK 6. An Inetpub folder will be created on your harddrive 7. Open the Inetpub folder, and find a folder named wwwroot 8. Create a new folder, like "MyWeb", under wwwroot. 9. Use a text editor to write some ASP code, save the file as "test1.asp" in the "MyWeb" folder 10. Make sure your Web server is running - its status can be checked by going into the Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, and double-click the "IIS Manager" icon 11. Open your browser and type in "http://localhost/MyWeb/test1.asp", to view your first ASP page" {http://www.w3schools.com/asp/asp_install.asp) I do not have the IIS Manager icon showing, and although I have tried to used the Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 reinstallation CD provided by DELL, I think I have simply uninstalled some things such as games and paint by accident rather than adding anything. It does say to only use that CD to reinstall the operating system, but I read that after I used it. Would someone please advise me how to get round this. Can I reinstall paint without reinstalling the whole operating system? Do I have to do something to the reinstallation CD to get a usable windows CD to use to just install a component? Would it work if I borrowed someone else's windows CD (I have a legitimate license, but DELL's CD is not the normal sort)? Would it have to be a service pack 2 CD? Is there something I need to do to get the webserver running, and can it be running without seeing the IIS Manager icon? Cheers

I get copy error
x setup cannot copy file staxmem.dl_
retry/cancel
Ensure that the location specified below is correct or change it and insert windows xp prof service pack 2 CD in the drive you specify
the copy files from box has
C:\i386
in it, and when I change it to D: and browse to D:\i386, click on (or 'open')the file staxmem.dl_ and retry, it gives the same message as above, but with D:\i386 in the copy files from box.
When I choose cancel instead of retry, it moves on to the next file it can't copy
admexs.dl_.
Then Appconf.dl_ iisadmin.dl_ etc.
I haven't gone all the way through the install pressing cancel. Just part way and then cancelled out of the install.
This has happened each time I have tried it. Any suggestions?
