INCREDIMAIL USURPS OUTLOOK EXPRESS
Uninstalling Incredimail hasn't cleared it from remaining in situ as email default and secondary, thereby blocking the pathway. I have been unable to dislodge it and replace Outlook Express. My system is Windows XP Home and I am pretty much a beginner, so any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Tony and thanks
I am running Spyware Doctor, Norton AniVirus, PConPoint and Registry Mechanic, so I took the liberty of bypassing the first part of your recommendation. PConPoint because it claimed to be able to sort out Incredimail problems! But it hasn't!
I went into Customize and found that email was 'off' but Incredimail was there in both boxes, but greyed out. I could not overwrite it or delete it in on or off mode, in order to change it to Outlook Express! Tools in OE shows Mail as pop.tiscali.co.uk mail default and for News - news.tiscali.co.uk news default. I looked in what I think is a start up folder named 1386 (?) but no sight of Incredimail. A search Incredimail came up with 47 finds. I could delete all but two. The error message reads - Cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk.... and goes on to talk about other locations on on hard diskj etc...
If I go into Internet Options/Programmes I find HTML editor - Notepad; Email - Incredimail (twice) ; Newsgroups - Outlook Express; Internet Call - NetMeeting.
Does this throw any more light on the problem?

OK. Here we go. First. Create a system restore point.(START|PROGRAMS|ACCESSORIES|SYSTEM TOOLS|System Restore).
Next. START|RUN. Type regedit.Press Enter. Click on Edit. Click on Find. Type Incredimail. Delete every occurence you find. Close registry editor. Reboot. After reboot run Registry Mechanic (and/or PConPoint). Clean up the registry. You should be ready to go.
