IPHLPAPI.dll cannot start Win 98
I've spent nearly 30 hours on this problem, the last 6 with Dell Tech folks who say they will call back and never do. Last week AOL started to act crazy and feeze. I get a periodic message on start - not all the time - "Iphlpapi.dll file cannot start". A google seach showed this is happening to others and Microsoft has a VERY complicated solution. I'm amazed that 6 Dell support folks had no idea what to do. I'm on Win 98. Each call of course meant 20 minute hold. Anything I can do short of reinstalling windows? I don't have a CD burner so can't back up all my files. I need HELP!!!

Is your anti-virus protection current and active?

After 5 Dell Tech support folks one showed me how to use SFC and I think I corrected that but I still get the MAIN.IDX file is damaged message and 3 hours with DEll got me nothing. They are only suggesting that I reinstall Windows98 to original date (November 2000!). And of course I need to back up 4 years of files. It seems like the only way. Unless someone has a solution. If I reinstall Windows and it doesn't work, I'm done with both AOL and Dell.

After 19 hours on line with AOL they have wiped their hands of it because the Main.idx file is part of Windows - in a sub directory Windows has of AOL. A google search shows that this is a common problem that AOL is blaming Dell and Dell is blaming AOL and customers are getting the short end. Reinstalling AOL? I've done it 27 times! Works for an hour and then message appears.
With a problem this common, you would think AOL OR Dell would have a solution. Both companies tech staff (in India.. God forbid we get a US tech person!) have spent over 20 hours on phone with me and now they still blame the other and Dell says to "just reinstall Windows". (Yep, and have to back up all my files!).
If anyone has had this AOL and win 98 problem maybe THEY have a solution.

Also, since Main.idx is an AOL file, perhaps a reinstall of the AOL software would be a solution.

I think I FINALLY found my answer! An AOL tech Manager in Virginia called me and sent me this MS solution. It seems to have worked. Even though I don't have Broadband the Rename section worked!
