I have an inspiron 5150 and I am running vista aero. The only upgrade is I swapped out the 252mg of ram for a 1g of ram, so I now have 1.25mg of ram. Download dell's vista upgrade advisor which is tons better than microsofts and run it. My video card shows an experience rating of 1 so aero is not turned on automatically I had to manually turn it on by selecting it in personalization. If you need instructions let me know. My Nvidea G05200 video card only has 32mg of video ram but it has 451mg of graphics memory. Aero states it needs 128mg of graphics memory not 128mg of hardwired video ram. I have had compatibility problems with some software and hardware.
Hope this helps

Update:
I have managed to get Itunes 7.02, my canon 4800cx printer drivers including the twain driver, and symnantec(norton) anti-virus to work. I also have netscape 7.2 and 8.0 on my computer. Instead of the dreaded blue screen of death I now get occasionally the dreaded "gray screen of death", it usually occurs usually when I am using one of the version of netscape. My screen suddenly becomes kinda of gray like in a program when an option is not available and is grayed out, the program also says "not responding". I suspect the problem might be with the anti-virus program but it may be with netscape. Most of the time I am able to close the offending program but frequently I am just frozen and I have required to do a hard boot. Hopefully this info belongs in this forum on will be of value to other early user of vista.

I have 1.5GB RAM and my 5200 Video Card is showing 64MB Memory Size.

I assume this will allow Vista to be fully enabled?

TIA

The answer is yes if you have a dell inspiron 5150 with 1.5mg of ram and it has been modified. The critical factor I've found is two-fold, first can your video card support the wddm drivers and second how much video ram(not video memory). I STRONGLY suggest you deauthorize Itunes if you have it and it you are using any symantec products beware of problems. Expect some potential problems with your printer, but don't assume just because vista says it is incompatible that the printer won't work.
I also had vista tell me that there was and incompatibility with my laptops video card and it may not work. I made sure I had a good backup and proceeded with no problems.

Aero Glass, the "cool" video affects may not be automatically enabled and you may have to do this manually. Good Luck.

I used Acronis True Image 10 to do my backup and tested it on an old machine junk machine to ensure that my backup would actually work if necessary. True Image is vista compatible. Note: if you use symantec GOBACK be sure to disable it, you don't need to uninstall it just disable it and then do your backup. True Image is NOT compatible with goback and I've read that goback is not compatible with vista.

I meant to say "hasn't been modified" not "has been modified".
