FROM MY ORIGINAL DELL I USED THE CD CONTAINING XP OPERATIVE SYS. AND INSTALLED IT ON MY SECOND PC, A LAPTOP. PRODUCT REGISTERED OK.
I WANT TO KNOW IF I CAN INSTALL THE SAME XP AGAIN, THIS TIME ON A THIRD PC USING THE SAME CD WITH OUT ANY COMPLICATION. THIS THIRD PC IS CURRENTLY RUNNING WIN 98.
You're in violation of the license agreement, and doing things that are not legal. At 30 days your copy of XP will stop working.
No you can't. Operating system must stay with the original computer it came on. It cannot be transferred or used on another. The second computer's OS will cease to work after 30 days or 50 starts. Registration is not required. Activation is.
IM SORRY I TYPED PRODUCT REGISTERED. I MEANT ACTIVATED. I CALLED TO A NUMBER THE CD GAVE ME AND AFTER GIVING THE EXISTING NUMBERS I RECEIVED NEW ONES TO MAKE IT WORK. MY REAL QUESTION IS IF I WILL BE ABLE TO RECEIVE A NEW SET OF NUMBERS TO ACTIVATE THE XP THIS TIME. THE SECOND PC WAS ACTIVATED LONG AGO AND IT IS RUNNING FINE.
What they are trying to say is that you cannot use a copy of Windows XP except on the system it came on. It's illegal. You agreed to that when you hit F8 and said you agreed to the end users agreement. You need to take it off the second PC and not install it on a third.
