Installing Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 and Outlook Express Question
Hello:
Have a corrupted version of IE on my PC now (using netscape instead), but would like to
go back to IE.
Am about to download "Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1" (which is supposedly a "full" Browser installation)but was wondering:
My Outlook Express works just fine, however, and I certainly don't
want to mess it up, change it, or update it. Just want to keep it as is.
Will installing Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 wipe out my present OE ?
If it does wipe it out, does it transfer the address book, settings, etc., automatically to the new OE installation ?
Anything else I should know, or be asking, please ?
Thanks,
Bob

Thanks for help; really appreciate it.
Yes, I did try the IE repair option. Did nothing.
The problem started when I installed Earthlink and the Earthlink provided IE.
Really messed up my PC good. Big mistake loading their software.
What happens now when I try to open IE, I get the upper tool bar, but only a blank page.
Then, usually, an error message that IE has to shut down.
Downloading new versions of IE, and reinstalling does nothing to fix problem.
Also, repeat IE downloads, at times, just hang up in the middle of the download.
Have tried this many times.
Thought I'd give it one more try with this IE 6 service pack 1 and see what happens.
I really don't like netscape.
Sure is a crazy problem.
Any more thoughts ?
Thanks,
Bob

Any ISP that requires installation of special software in order to use it isn't worth the money you're spending on it. There are far too many that require nothing more than entering a dialup number, SMTP and POP3 information, a user name and a password, none of which should cause the problems you're experiencing. You don't need a branded browser, you don't need a special home page, and you sure as heck don't need all the other junk some of these outfits force on their customers to use the internet.
I think I'd be looking for a new ISP, if you can't just uninstall the Earthlink junk, and make things work without it.
