Instructions for Creating an Integrated SP2 Install
Note: These instructions are steps for the creation of an integrated Windows XP SP2 installation disk from the Dell Reinstallation CD for Windows XP Home that includes SP1a (Dell P/N R2490). These are basic instructions containing no detailed information on specific items. They assume some technical knowledge.
Insert the Dell CD and copy all of the files to a directory on your hard drive, then proceed to extract the boot sector from the installation disk.
Delete the following items from the CD directory you just created:
Integrate SP2 using the update program located in . \I386\UPDATE in the directory containing the files for SP2. Do not use the –s: switch, instead use the –integrate: switch (instructions from Microsoft use this switch).
Create .\I386\SVCPACK.INF with the following information:
Insert the Dell CD and copy all of the files to a directory on your hard drive, then proceed to extract the boot sector from the installation disk.
Delete the following items from the CD directory you just created:

Would that work for XP Pro?

I do not know if these instructions would work with Windows XP Professional; however, I believe the instructions for XP Profesional would be very similar. The only difference would be the files to delete. I was unable to provide instructions for XP Professional as I do not own its Dell Reinstallation CD.

Most of those files do not need to be manually deleted, as they are overwritten by the integration process.
The SVCPACK.INF instructions I believe are for slipstreaming hot fixes. Not that it wouldn't work with a full blown service pack too, but probably not needed for a full blown service pack integrated installation.

I have found a way to slipstream my Dell Dimension 8300 with WindowsXP Pro.
I used this article but also deleted SVCPACK.INF and directory SVCPACK.
Installing WindowsXP and
http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20040908/index.htmlService Pack 2 with 1 CD
Before I deleted these two files I was getting the message.
"
This Service Pack cannot be integrated into a destination that also has integrated Software Updates"I have not tested the restore yet but the CD looks good and it contains the .sp2 file and the files in the i386 look good.
I used the procedure on a standard XP Pro CD and it also worked.
I tried using a free tool AutoStreamer, but it just created an xp p1 image.
I mention this because this is where I found the files to delete.
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=188337Aiua I tried to go through the list you had to delete but just didn't have the patients.
I didn't delete the Q######.exe files (hot fixes) from my image but I think it would have been a good idea.
Dave.

Mine is bootable.
I got to the setup screen.
Check to see if the size is 2k for your boot image, and that "No Emulation" is selected.

On my home page: http://vbdotnet.home.comcast.net/ I created 2 pages – 1 for creating an SP2 slipstream CD from the Dell Reinstallation CD, and another for SP2 related issues with Symantec products.
In this forum thread: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=43237 I detail the order of the steps that I took for reloading software after completing the reinstallation of XP SP2.

I'll play with it some more this weekend. I know I set it for no emu but I don't remember about the boot image.
Thanks
