Internet Explorer 7 - gets stuck and uses processor
In Internet Explorer 7, I find it sometimes occupies 90% and more of processor resources.
Is this common with the recent IE updates?
Particularly when using tabs IE can hang and just stop reacting?
Can anyone explain the problem and what internet settings can be changed to control this?
thanks

PC is Dell Inspiron 5150 running Windows XP home
Pentium 4, 3.06ghz
Memory 512MB
I originally had very good results running IE7 on XP, when IE7 was first available, and was using tabs a lot. So am wondering why it should hang now.
What do you think?

What model PC? and What Operating System? (and I.E. 7 is part of the Operating System and thus your post would be more appropriate on the applicable operating system section of the forum).
However, since you are using Tabs, how much memory do you have? Insufficient memory can cause "open window" issues especially if you have other programs open too.

I wonder if it's an I.E.7 add on, rather than I.E7 itself? I've had some problems with some of the add-on's.
Repost this in the Windows XP section, as it's the most appropriate section.

I agree it is most likely an addon, possibly one not updated from when you had IE 6 (e.g. a third paty toolbar)
You can run IE7 with no add ons. It should be a shortcut in System tools, or click start, run, type
iexplore.exe -extoff [note space between e and -]
click OK or press enter.
If IE7 is stable with no addons, close IE, go to Control panel, Internet options, programs tab, click manage addons. Enable the addons one at a time or in small groups, test IE for stability. If stable, enable some more addons, untill the instability recurs. That identifies the addon causing the problem. Disable that one and enable the others. If it is something such as a toolbar, check the site of the provider for an IE 7 compatible version.
