Internet Explorer Crashes on a regular basis
Internet Explorer crashes on a regular basis for not apparent reason. Then we get a box on the screen to allow us to notify MS, which we did in the past, but have stopped doing since I do not believe it does any good. I use Adaware & Sypbot weekly. Norton Internet Security is also updated weekly. Critical Windows XP patches are loaded weekly one week after they come out. Is there anyway to re-install Internet Explorer or to fix problems, if so, how?

Sending the message to Microsoft does not good as you have seen. However, if you click on the link in that error message to show the details of the error report and then report the AppName and ModName involved in the error in on message in this forum, it may get you some help.

Since the problem seems to be mostly with IE, you can try repairing it, or even reinstalling it:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318378
How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP
This is easier:
Type or copy/paste the following into the Run dialog box off the Start Menu:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 C:\windows\inf\ie.inf
When the dialog box comes up with 'C:\windows\inf\ie.inf', edit it to read 'C:\windows\ie.inf' and OK it. Don't insert your XP CD as requested. The repair should then start.

I use firefox browser instead of explorer. You can download firefox at http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ and it is much safer then explorer.

Chuket,
You are correct, the only problem I am having is with IE crashing, the rest of Windows XP seems to be rock solid. I have a number of questions, so that I can learn from your advice.
Is there anything I should backup prior to running the RUN procedure?
When I run the command that you gave me, what will it repair? IE only?
What does the editing accomplish?
In the last step when you state "Don't insert your XP CD, do I hit enter or just wait for it to proceed on its own?
Thanks for your help, Mike

I didn't back anything up when I ran it and didn't lose any data that i'm aware of although MS warns that you could lose data running their fix. You could create a restore point first if you like.
The repair only works on IE and doesn't effect anything else. One thing you will have to do is run the Windows update when you're finished as the repair removes several of them.
When you run the command, a dialog box will appear asking for the XP CD.
You shouldn't need it.
In the same box, it will have 'copy files from' and C:\windows\inf\i386 will be hi-lited. Edit that line to read C:\windows\i386 (remove the \inf) and click OK
It should start the repair at this point.
I ran it on my machine and had no problems afterwards.
The line in the earlier post was incorrect "edit C:\windows\inf\ie.inf ......".
