Internet Explorer Help

I have this problem with my IE. Some programs acknowledge my IE6 as it is, others say it is less than 6.0 and needs to be upgraded. My office programs indicate that my IE is less than 4.1 and I can't open Outlook at all or any help menus. This is what it says when I look at "About Internet Explorer":

Version:
Cipher Strength: 128-bit
Product ID: xxxxxxx
Update Versions:; SP1; Q330994; Q824145; Q832894; Q837009; Q831167;
This is a customized version of Internet Explorer

Can anyone looking at this tell me why my IE isn't working properly? I really need to have this working in order to function properly in my work.

Please help.

A1Secretarial,

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forum.

Can you tell us exactly what you mean by "customized" version of IE.  What specific changes were made and how?

Correct. I didn't do anything to it. It just showed up like that in April and hasn't worked correctly since. Could installing AOL have altered my IE? How do I get rid of it and get a brand new version of IE? Everything I read says that I can't delete IE from the system????

I believe that information ("This is a customized version of Internet Explorer") automatically appears in the "Help - About Internet Explorer" window in 3rd party branded versions of IE installed by outfits like AOL, Earthlink, etc., and doesn't have anything to do with anything else the user might have done.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time AOL has hosed something on an otherwise well working system, but to each his/her own, I suppose.

Is AOL your service provider?  If not, then you certainly don't need any of their stuff installed.  I've read that it's possible to pretty much remove IE through an involved process of tweaking and pruning, however I've never tried it, and wouldn't recommend trying it until I had, if then.  I think you'd be better off attempting to repair your present installation, using the method described here.  It's not the easiest routine in the world, but it might do the trick.

An easier solution for AOL is to log on to AOL, minimize their IE browser and open another IE window that will not use AOL's browser.

An easier solution for AOL is to avoid it like the plague.

What's a good program to stop poppp-ups. I used to not get them b4 i formatted my hard drive, but now i have the yahoo and google toolbar that say they block pop-ups but i still get them.   I have ran ad-aware and got rid of stuff too.
