Internet Explorer Home Page

I have a Dell Dimension 8250 with Windows XP Home Edition.  I am trying to set my default home page to a blank one, but every time I do this via Internet Options, it always resets itself to Dell's Home Page.  Does anyone know how I can stop this behaviour and what is causing it?

Did you ever figure this one out? I am struggling with the same problem.

hi there - I sent you a private message, but in case you didn't get it - I'm still struggling with this problem myself.  Whenever I try to set the home page as blank (or anything else for that matter) my Spyware software pops up an alert to tell me that it has been changed back to http://www.euro.dell.com/countries/uk/enu/gen/default.htm.  As it is always Dell's home page that it gets reset to, I can only assume that it is some sort of browser hijacker they've installed to ensure that you always end up at their home site.   Trouble is, my Spyware software only tells me that the home page has been changed; it doesn't tell me what has caused the change or how to exterminate the wretched pest that's causing it.

If anyone from Dell is reading this, for god's sake tell us how to stop this before I go loopy.

Hello,

I figured out the problem.  It isn't browser hijacker software Dell installed.  It is anti-hijacker software you installed (namely your spyware software).  You'll have to disable this feature of your spyware software, change your home page, then re-enable the feature.

I had exactly the same problem.  I use Free Surfer Mk II to block pop-ups.  It also prevents browser hijacking.  I figured out what was going on by scanning every file on my system for the URL of the Dell home page.  I found it in the .ini file for Free Surfer.  Since Free Surfer has an option for turning off the feature, the problem was easy to fix.  When I re-enabled the anti-hijacking feature, Free Surfer just saved the URL for my new home page.

Hey!!  I have Freesurfer installed as well.  I never even considered that this could be the problem.  I had a look at the options panel in Freesurfer and there it was - an option to lock the Home Page and it was turned on!  Switched it off and hey presto - a blank home page that stays!

Many many thanks for that - and Dell - I take it all back!!!
