Internet Explorer Provided by Dell

I first turned on my new computer 48 hours ago and the thing that troubles me most about it is the Internet Explorer provided by Dell. It is so different from the Google home page that I am used to. My old Google home page had tabs that were relevant to my interests not busy pages for games, music and sports of Dell, that are so unprofessional. It also allowed me to do advanced searches, something that I cannot find on the Dell-supplied home page. Even when I made as my home page what I thought would be the standard Google home page, I could not customize it. Has Dell somehow crippled IE? It seems that what Dell and Microsoft used to do with the real estate of a new desktop Dell and Google now do to the browser.

Is it safe for me to remove the Internet Explorer provided by Dell and then install a new version? Will the new version be free of all the Dell and Google garbage or is the sales garbage locked into the system? I've already started using Firefox as a substitute for the IE of Dell. So, I will have a means to download a clean version, but will it meet my expectations?

I just solved my own problem. I clicked on iGoogle and found not only a customizable home page but one with my customizations. I made it the default.

Thanks for your input. I had no idea that IE 7.0 was built-in. There sure is a lot that is built into Vista that probably is not as good as the third party stuff already out there but is sufficient that it will erode the customer base of those better offerings, leading them to withdraw from the market and leaving us with less choice.

If you did not previously have IE6 on your machine (and I suspect you didn't if this is a new machine), you cannot uninstall IE7. It is part of Vista.

There is certainly no reason why you should not be able to customize IE7 to your personal preferences however.

Glad you got it sorted out. As for IE7, it's probably the best and most secure (if that term applies to Microsoft) version of IE that has been released. Firefox is still, however, the browser of choice (in my opinion).
