Internet Explorer and Corrupt Pages

Question

Dell Dimension 8400, Windows XP home.  Earthlink ISP.  Using Internet Explorer as my web browser. Problem is that I have two web pages that appear to be corrupted.  One is NOAA weather home page forecast for my city.  It is set under tools as my 'current home page'.  When I log off the internet and then sign back on the page is partially corrupted. I can type in or use my favorites to access the page then and the page is not corrupted.  However, when I pull up the radar image although it loads correctly it will not 'loop' so I can see the radar image over the previous hour or so.  On my Inspiron 7500 with 98SE the page loops correctly so it must not be NOAA's server. A second weather page (weather underground) when set as my home page will not load after signing off and signing back on--I get the messag that the page cannot be found-- it may be the site has moved or the rest of the problems.  Both of these pages have been corrupted after originally set as home pages several weeks ago. Also when I use the URL to load weather underground it loads O.K.  Yet it also will not loop the radar.  My computer had to be mirrored (termiology maybe not correct) to reinstall windows XP shortly have the computer was received.  I don't recall if the problem occured beofre it was mirrored. All other pages set as my home page load correctly.  For example Intellicast weather will load correctly and the radar site under intellicast radar will loop. My virus definitions are up to date, and the computer has been repeatedly scanned. I use Spsy Sweeper by Webroot and Ad-aware personal SE (and have scanned multiple times), Norton Internet Security (turning it off does not solve the problem).  I've repeatedly cleared history, interenet pages and cookies via 'Tools'--Internet Options.  Problem still exists.  My security and privacy under Internet Options are set to default. My assumption is (correctly???--I'm no computer expert by any means) that a hidden cookie or something in my registry has stored the problem pages and keeps giving them back to me.  Or perhaps I.E. is corrupt. Earthlink adamantly states that it does not store these web pages on their server for me. Does anyone have any thoughts.  I can live with the problem, but have to admit that over the past several weeks it continues to bug me. Thanks.

Hi Bob,

I'm not sure what the problem is but you could try a few trouble-shooting steps.

1. With your IE brower open, go to Tools>Internet Options and delete your cookies and files (deleting the cookies will also delete any your username and passwords stored for any password protected sites that allow you to automatically log on to, e.g., forums).

2. Change your current home page to some other page, close and open your browser to set it, and then change it back to the NOAA page.

3. To clean up your registry, install TweakNow RegCleaner from here http://www.tweaknow.com/RegCleaner.html ...its free for non-commercial use and very easy to use.

Thanks Tom for the reply. I've cleared my history, cookies and temporary internet files and reset my home page multiple times. It does not solve the problem in the the two weather pages I referred to in that are corrupted when they load or will not load.

I did download the Jave 2 Runtime Evnironment SEV 1.3.2-05 from Sun Microsystems as suggested by NOAA weather. That did allow me to loop the radar pages.

However, I still can't loop the radar pages for Weather Underground or Weather Tap. So will spend some more time with Dell support to see if they have any new ideas. I have a hunch I may end up having to reinstall Internet Explorer.

I've not installed TweakNow Reg Cleaner. Thanks for the info.
