Internet Explorer and Windows Update problems

Question

Well, my Internet Explorer does not work! So IE doesn't allow me to enter certain secure webpages, such as a registration page for amazon or something, also, Windows Updates does not work through IE becuase 'my current security settings' are weird. I tried changing the settings, but it does absolutely nothing. Any download from Windows Updates will not work at all! So I tried deleting IE so I could reinstall the newer version, and I did. But when I download IE service pack 6 and try to install it, it doesn't work, saying 'there is a newer version of IE' on my computer. So how do I fix my horrible Internet Explorer and be able to download windows updates again. ~I tried windows updates through another browser, but they have the same stupid problem. Please hep.
