Invalid version of XP Pro

We received a donation of a Dell computer at the Non Profit veterans foundation I where I am a volunteer. It is constantly giving us a notification that our version of XP is not valid. I contacted the person who donated the machine and she said that the OS came with the machine when she bought it for her business. She said that she does not have the discs that came with it any more. I have the key off of the sticker but do not know how to put it back into the machine for verification. Any help would be great.

Mike, If you do the transfer of ownership into your name you should be able to request replacement disks from Dell.

Open Windows Explorer, select Help and Activate Windows. Use the key you have on the machine (carefully enter the exact key) and if you get an error, use the contact number on the screen to call the Activation Desk. Follow the automated steps to manually activate XP. You might get a human to explain the situation if the automated system doesn't work.
