Iomega Backup Pro . . . Incompatibility with new version of Windows XP . . . how to fix?

Hi all:

I just purchased a new Dimension Desktop E520 this week, operating the latest version of XP, replacing my previous computer, a very old Dell operating on XP (2003 version).  I wanted to restore all of my old files/settings from an external harddrive (Iomega) using Iomega's latest BackupPro software download, which works on the old version of XP, but does not work on the new version.  These are the symptoms . . . after loading the software and being prompted to restart to complete the installation process, the computer boots up, gets to the welcome page, proceeds successfully to the desktop . . . and then as on the old system, the Iomega "Splash-Screen" pops into view whereupon, the desktop promptly disappears and a new view appears . . . with a blue screen and white error message(s).  I then have to push the power bottom off . . .return to safe mode, delete the just installed software . . . reboot and everything is fine as before, complete with my inability to access the old data from the new machine.   I've heard of people having problems with Vista in this regard . . . which is precisely why I purchased a system with XP . . . . arrrghhh!   Please help!!

There are different versions but should all work the same with most software.

1. XP Home
2. XP Pro
3. XP Media Center Edition (MCE)

There are also different service pack levels for each of these versions.

1. XP no service pack
2. XP SP1
3. XP SP2- what the E520 has.

Check the Iomega website for the latest software.

"Iomega is no longer developing Iomega Backup, Automatic Backup, or Automatic Backup Pro; we will not publish future patches or fixes. Although we will continue to support your software while your product is in warranty, we recommend you upgrade to a much more powerful backup tool—Retrospect Express. It offers similar features, including scheduled backups, full system backups, and compression, plus some additional features like support for open file backup."

The new Iomega software, and it's not cheap.

I use this software for backup and recovery, the best on the market today.
