Is it possible to run win98 on a Dimension 4600 ???

My Dimension 4600 came with XP, since I wanted win98, I've reformatted the hard disk and installed win98

Installation went fine, however, when starting win98 for the 1st time, I had to install a few drivers so that win 98 would recognize all the hardware.

I installed the nvidia geforce driver for my video adapter, but there's no way I can get that driver to work (conflict with ACPI bios memory range)

I also discovered a similar conflict with one of my USB device that I disabled, but I'm now wondering: is it possible to run win 98 on a dell dimension 4600 ???

How can I get my geforce 5200fx to work??? anyone?

Fast forward 12 years... The driver on Dell's web site for the Analog Devices AD198x integrated driver has been revised since 2003 to a new version with a file name R94481.EXE. Don't use R94481.EXE  for Windows 9x OSs, it apparently will only work for Windows  XP. You need to the 2003 version for the driver package that will work with Windows 9x/ME. The Dell driver file name for the correct 2003 version is R66937.EXE. I had to find R66937.EXE outside of Dell's web site becuase when I tried to download on Dell, I received an error message that the server couldn't find the file. After you extract the the driver setup files, cancel the installation program. You have to manually install the driver using Device Manager in WIndows 9x/ME. There will be a folder under the installation directory called:

C:\DELL\R66937\SMAXWDM\SE

that you need to point when installing the Analog Devices AD 198X sound driver using device manager program in Windows 9x/ME.
